Dr Gwyn Elias - Medical Director

I joined OneMedical Group in 2020, working in a role combining general practice with leadership in primary care mental health for the group. In 2021 I became Medical Director and later that year became one of the board directors for the company. I am also Clinical Lead for the NHS England Personalised Care team for the North East and Yorkshire region. I volunteer at the Royal College of General Practitioners where I am Vice-Chair and Council representative for the Yorkshire Faculty. I am also one of the citywide member representatives of the Leeds Local Members Committee.

I enjoy the challenge of wicked problems and exploring other’s perspectives to obtain a whole systems view of the problem to understand it better before using the skills from my coaching qualification and experience as an improvement coach to support the development of a collaborative approach to tackling problems. This approach has supported my work in the eight years I was a clinical lead at an NHS Clinical Commissioning Group, where I have worked across organisational boundaries at a system level towards improving the health outcomes for people. Latterly I was the SRO for one of the citywide work streams integrating physical and mental health.

I am an advocate for the value that clinical leadership in the healthcare setting adds towards achieving better patient outcomes and experiences. I champion a whole person approach to medicine and a networked approach to leadership.

I qualified in Medicine from the University of Leeds in 2001 and completed my postgraduate training in General Practice in Leeds. I have graduated another two times from the University of Leeds obtaining Postgraduate Certificates in coproducing health and education in primary care.

In my spare time I enjoy being with my family and pet dog. My hobbies vary from building Lego, learning something new or practising something I have learnt – which could also include Yoga, Zumba or playing the piano. I can often be found exploring, travelling, or even venturing into another world in a good book or film.
