Breaking ground on the new Centre

On Friday 21 January, we marked the start of construction for the new Aspull Health and Wellbeing Centre. Together with Aspull Surgery, WWL Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Wigan Borough CCG, Wigan Council, QAD architects, and community members, we proudly put on our hard hats and broke the freshly prepared ground on Haigh Road in the heart of Aspull.

Putting healthcare closer to people

Joining together with the local community for this event was an opportunity to celebrate everyone’s contribution so far and also the progress to building stage for this long-awaited project.

We were also joined on the day by local press representatives, who visited the site to capture the event.

“We are delighted to have come so far with the progress of Aspull Health and Wellbeing Centre. As part of the Aspull Surgery for many years, the groundbreaking event is an important day for the practice, and all of our staff are pleased to know we will continue serving our patients in a state-of-the-art health and wellbeing setting,” said Aspull Surgery GP partner Dr Johannes van Spelde, quoted by The Bolton News.

Rachel Beverley-Stevenson, Executive Chair and Property Director at OneMedical Group, said for Wigan Today: “We are here today at the site of a new Aspull Health and Wellbeing Centre, in Aspull, Wigan. So today, we’re going to be doing what we call a groundbreaking ceremony, which is the symbol to start this really exciting project, bringing combined health and wellbeing to the people of Aspull. ”

The development is set for completion in early Autumn 2022. The highly sustainable focal point building will provide flexible healthcare facilities that support patients to access care and help them improve their lives.
