In our Career Spotlight series, you can read about the rewarding careers and achievements of the people who work here, and how we help them develop to do their best work. Find out what they do in their day-to-day role, how working for OneMedical Group has shaped their career and the positive impact they have on their local communities.

This time, we caught up with Jo to discover how she chose the path she is on today.

What made you join OneMedical Group?
When the opportunity to join Shakespeare Walk in Centre and the co-located service at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust as Clinical Service Manager came up in January 2022, I was ready for a different challenge. I already knew the service in Leeds and was familiar with the team, so it seemed an excellent opportunity.

How has your first year been at OneMedical Group?
In my former role as Clinical Services Manager, I enjoyed working with the team and the Group to make positive service and delivery changes. I was happy to see all the improvements and that our work had an impact.

In my new role as Clinical Operations and Development Lead for Urgent Care, I enjoy working with the teams to improve services across the Group and being involved in all the transformation work to further develop urgent care.

Tell us more about a rewarding achievement you’ve had here.
Working with the Locum Bookings team as Clinical Services Manager. Initially it was tough to manage – but it’s incredible how the teams work together through sickness and last-minute appointment cancellations.

It was also really rewarding to see the new Minor Illness service mobilise at Leeds General Infirmary. There’s still work to do, but it’s about doing more than we originally thought we could do.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to join urgent care?
It’s fast-paced – every day has its challenges and you never know what is coming that day. It will have its stress points but there is a supportive team around you. And always have a contingency plan!

How do you feel you’ve developed within OneMedical Group?
I took part in a leadership course soon after I first joined. It was an excellent opportunity to get to know the other managers across the Group and to understand everyone’s roles. It was good to go through all the leadership skills, techniques, and theories in the first couple of months.

Where do you see yourself going forward?
My role’s still quite new and I’m excited to see where we can take urgent care services, as well as bringing new ones on board. I’m getting along great with the team, so I look forward to seeing what’s going to happen next.
