26 Million Steps Later: Celebrating the One Medical Group Step Challenge 2026

Last month, colleagues from across One Medical Group laced up their trainers for our annual Step Challenge. For four weeks, 18 teams from across the group walked, strode and strutted their way to some remarkable results.

The challenge was organised by the OneMedical Group Wellbeing Forum. The Forum is a colleague-led group dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of everyone across our organisation. The Step Challenge was their idea from the start, and their energy and organisation turned it into one of the most popular events of the year.

What we achieved together

  • 🚶‍♀️ 26,691,216 steps walked

  • 📏 13,102 miles covered

  • 🌍 52.6% of the way around the Earth at the equator

  • 🏃‍♂️ The equivalent of 500 marathons

Our 2026 Champions: Whinhill Wanderers

One team led the field from start to finish. Whinhill Wanderers averaged 16,164 steps per person, per day and walked a combined 2,262,896 steps over four weeks. That’s enough to walk from London to Aberdeen and back again. Congratulations to our 2026 Step Challenge Champions!

Most Improved: The Walking Wonders

The Walking Wonders saved their best for last. They walked 231,660 more steps in the second half of the challenge than in the first half, a 40.6% increase.

Honourable mentions

  • Runners-up: Derms on the Move. They averaged 15,389 steps per person per day and pushed the Wanderers all the way to the finish line.

  • Most steps overall: Surgery Strutters. Our only team of eight walked an incredible 2,560,831 steps.

  • Most consistent: Seafield Sole Survivors. They recorded between 405,218 and 459,582 steps every single week, with no dips

A huge thank you to every colleague who took part, and to the One Medical Group Wellbeing Forum for bringing the idea to life. It was fantastic to see so many people getting active and supporting each other, a great example of our commitment to a healthier future.

We’re already looking forward to next year!
