Employee Spotlight – Dion Major-Preece, Clinical Coder

Dion began his career in the health service 18 years ago and has since gained experience across a range of clinical and non-clinical settings, including Operating theatres, Post-anaesthetic recovery, Major trauma and Radiology.

Dion says: "These roles provided me with a strong clinical foundation and a broad understanding of patient care, clinical pathways, and healthcare processes.

In January 2018, I joined OneMedical Group as a Patient Navigator, marking my first non-clinical role within healthcare. This position enabled me to develop strong administrative skills and gain valuable insight into the vital behind-the-scenes functions that support the delivery of high-quality patient care. It also provided me with a broader understanding of primary care operations and the importance of effective coordination and communication within healthcare services.

I currently work as a Clinical Coder. My role involves reviewing hospital letters and other clinical correspondence, ensuring that key clinical information is accurately coded and recorded within patients' medical records. This requires a high level of attention to detail and supports the maintenance of accurate, comprehensive records, enabling clinicians to access reliable information and deliver safe, effective patient care.
Alongside my core responsibilities, I am actively involved in supporting and developing new team members. I have also worked across several of the Group’s sites, delivering training and education on primary care back-office functions and promoting best practice to help ensure consistency, efficiency, and high-quality service delivery.
Throughout my time at OneMedical Group, I have felt supported and empowered to develop both personally and professionally. OneMedical has provided opportunities to expand my knowledge, develop new skills, and take on a variety of challenges, enabling me to progress from a Patient Navigator role into my current position as a Clinical Coder. This encouragement and investment in my development have made my experience both rewarding and fulfilling.

I feel privileged to be part of this organisation and to contribute to its three core values: People First, Working Together, and A Healthier Future. These values align closely with my own approach to healthcare and continue to inspire me in my role every day."

We are so pleased to have you on our team, Dion! 😃
