Sheffield Walk in Centre’s Student Survival Pop Up

Last week, Sheffield Walk-in Centre attended the ‘Discover Sheffield’ Freshers Event, meeting new and returning university students and helping them learn more about the service and when they may need to seek medical advice.

With thousands of students arriving in Sheffield for the new academic year, the event was a great opportunity to talk about staying well while at university and what to do when illness strikes.

We got students involved in a ‘Booze or Bugs’ spin-the-wheel game, putting their health knowledge to the test. Students spun the wheel of common symptoms they might experience during university life, and we told them how to tell the difference between a typical hangover and symptoms that could indicate an illness or infection that may need looking at.

The team also shared information about Sheffield Walk-in Centre, including the types of health concerns the service can help with and when students should consider seeking medical advice

Moving to university can be a big change, particularly for students living away from home for the first time. Knowing where to go for healthcare advice can help students feel more confident about looking after themselves and getting the right support when they need it.

The event provided a valuable opportunity for the team to connect with students, answer questions and share practical health advice at the start of the university year.
