Challenge
In August 2022, OneMedical Group and four other healthcare providers established the Leeds Community Dermatology Collaborative to deliver more dermatology care closer to home. The Community Dermatology Service was set up to provide timely diagnosis, management and treatment of skin conditions for adults and children, delivering care closer to home while working alongside primary and secondary care services.
As demand for dermatology services continued to grow, the challenge was to maintain timely access to specialist assessment and treatment while consistently meeting contractual performance standards. Ensuring patients received the right care, at the right time, through an efficient and sustainable pathway remained a key priority.
What We Did
Our dermatology service combines robust clinical governance, efficient pathways and proactive capacity planning to ensure patients receive timely assessment, advice and treatment across the care pathway.
Impact / Results
The Leeds Community Dermatology service, run by OneMedicare at the Light, achieved 100% performance against key access and pathway metrics for April 2026 - September 2026, including triage within two working days, advice and guidance responses within two working days, appointment availability within six weeks and referral-to-treatment performance within 18 weeks. By consistently meeting and exceeding national and local targets, we have reduced delays, maintained rapid access to specialist support and ensured patients receive the right care at the right time.
Conclusion
Our performance demonstrates a commitment to delivering safe, responsive and patient-focused dermatology services, underpinned by strong operational management and clinical excellence.
